The Risk Management Team Lead - Unsecured Lending is responsible for developing, implementing, and optimizing risk management strategies for unsecured lending products. This role requires a unique combination of risk management expertise and product team experience, ensuring that pricing strategies are aligned with both business objectives and risk appetite.
The ideal candidate must have deep knowledge of risk management (credit risk, fraud risk, portfolio monitoring, and regulatory compliance) as well as experience working with product teams to shape and price financial products effectively. This position requires collaboration with Product Owners, data teams, risk modeling experts, and business stakeholders to develop a data-driven, customer-centric, and scalable risk framework.
1. Risk Strategy & Credit Policy Development
- Lead the development and refinement of risk policies, underwriting models, and credit scorecards for unsecured lending.
- Define and maintain risk appetite frameworks in alignment with business growth targets and regulatory requirements.
- Continuously optimize lending criteria, approval rates, and credit limit strategies based on customer behavior and market trends.
- Work closely with product teams to develop risk-based pricing strategies, ensuring that pricing reflects both risk exposure and competitive market positioning.
2. Risk Execution & Portfolio Monitoring
- Oversee the full risk lifecycle, including loan origination, credit decisioning, portfolio management, early warning systems, collections, and recoveries.
- Monitor key risk indicators (e.g., delinquency rates, default rates, loss given default, non-performing loans) and implement proactive mitigation strategies.
- Work with data science teams to develop machine learning models for risk assessment and fraud detection.
- Regularly conduct stress testing and scenario analysis to ensure resilience in different economic conditions.
3. Regulatory Compliance & Governance
- Ensure full compliance with SBV regulations, Basel II/III, IFRS 9, and internal credit risk policies.
- Conduct periodic internal audits, risk assessments, and regulatory reporting to maintain adherence to industry standards.
- Serve as the primary risk representative in internal and external audits, ensuring transparency in risk management processes.
4. Fraud Risk Management & Prevention
- Develop and implement fraud detection and mitigation strategies to prevent application fraud, identity theft, and transactional fraud in unsecured lending.
- Utilize advanced fraud detection tools to identify suspicious patterns and enhance fraud prevention capabilities.
- Collaborate with law enforcement agencies and fraud analytics teams to investigate and mitigate fraud risks effectively.
5. Cross-Functional Collaboration (Risk + Product + Pricing)
- Work closely with the Product team to align pricing models with risk frameworks.
- Collaborate with Finance to balance business growth and risk exposure in profitability models.
- Partner with Legal, Compliance, and IT to ensure risk policies and products meet regulatory requirements.
- Provide training and guidance on risk-based pricing and credit risk assessment.
6. Leadership & Team Development
- Build and lead a team of credit risk analysts, fraud specialists, and policy experts.
- Promote a risk-aware culture through training and development.
- Encourage adoption of Agile risk management practices to respond to market changes.
