Job Description 

At Aperia, we rely on a dynamic team of engineers who partner externally with our clients and solve challenges presented in their technical stack. We’re seeking a site reliability engineer who has a keen focus and background in Java to work directly with our client and support end-to-end responsibilities of their projects. The ideal candidate has proven experience supporting highly integrated legacy production systems and keeping production systems stable while delivering new features at speed. 

Core Responsibilities 

• Own monitoring of the system and create alerting on failures and be responsible for those failures when they happen. 
• Provide a clear set of guidelines for implementation which result in reliable systems and high change velocity. 
• Work to eliminate toil and other types of repetitive manual work which provide very little value, and achieve the applications agreed to service levels.
• Acknowledge that failures happen and establish an incident management process which make efficient use of the team's time.
• Work with agile development methodologies, adhering to best practices and pursuing continued learning opportunities including the latest changes in technology and new SRE practices.
• Conduct postmortems to identify to the root cause of the issue and put procedures or software tools in place to prevent it recurring.
• Take care of administration tasks but automate them whenever possible. 

Functional Responsibilities 

• Support a 24×7 critical application that serves millions of customers daily. 
• Maintain systems and troubleshoot system issues by working closely with the dev and dev ops team to manage monitoring of the system and alerting on failures. 
• Identify bottlenecks in various Java applications and implement performance improvements.  
• Prioritize, assign, and execute tasks throughout the software development life cycle.
• Develop, configure, and deploy tools for cloud-based systems and services.
• Containerize new and legacy applications to help limit downtime and increase scalability and reliability.
• Support development and operations teams as requested and enhance, modify or debug developer code as needed. 

Technical Skills 

• 3+ years of proven experience in an object orientated language, preferably the latest version of Java (direct experience with Hibernate, Multithread, Spring Boot required). 
• Experience with Jenkins for CI/CD pipeline creation and CI/CD automation. 
• Experience with Kubernetes implementation with Google.
• Proficient in production systems design including High Availability, Disaster Recovery, Performance, Efficiency, and Security user, application performance, system, log, time-series, and dash boarding.
• Deep understanding of modern microservice based architectures and operations.
• Proficient in a modern infrastructure automation toolkit such as Terraform/Helm.
• Proficient in a Linux or Unix based environment.
• Proficient in a modern scripting language like GO or Python.
• Familiarity with Open-Source concepts and tools like Prometheus, Grafana, ELK, etc.  

Things that will separate you from the rest 

• Experience in a cloud computing platform and the associated automation patterns it provides, preferably GCP. 
• Knowledge of APM fundamentals or experience in tools like New Relic or AppDynamics. 
• Experience in destructive testing methodologies and tools such as chaos monkey. 
• Experience in defensive coding practices and patterns for high availability.
