Your role & responsibilities
  • Maintain and continuously improve existing edtech web and mobile systems, monitoring performance, scalability, security, and uptime alongside new development work. 
  • Plan and manage the delivery of new software development projects from design through release, including scope, timelines, and resource allocation across concurrent projects and maintenance workload. 
  • Lead the development and delivery of AI-integrated products and features, from LLM-powered functionality to speech and content automation, working with the Lead Developer on the supporting AI infrastructure. 
  • Manage, coach, and develop a team of software developers, setting clear priorities and tracking output against agreed plans. 
  • Own release management: maintain a staged release process with version control, release scheduling, and rollback procedures, coordinating QA testing and UAT with stakeholders so environments and data are fully prepared and results are reliable. 
  • Establish and enforce testing and QA discipline, including written test procedures and completed pre-release checklists for every release. 
  • Own incident management: triage, resolve, and escalate production issues in line with department SLAs, with immediate escalation of downtime and customer-facing defects. 
  • Partner with the Lead Developer on backend architecture, database design, server infrastructure, and AI infrastructure decisions. 
  • Review code, provide technical guidance, and maintain coding standards, security, and performance best practices. 
  • Strengthen development processes over time, including CI/CD, automation, and technical documentation. 
  • Stay up to date with relevant technologies and industry trends, including AI-assisted development tools and AI-enabled product features.

Your skills & qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree, or higher, in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field. 
  • 8+ years of experience in software development, including 3+ years managing a software development team. 
  • Proven track record of delivering new products or major features to production, not only maintaining existing systems. 
  • Experience implementing testing/QA processes and structured release management in a live production environment. 
  • Experience managing production incidents and working to SLAs in a customer-facing environment. 
  • Experience managing developers across web and mobile application delivery.
