Role Purpose

Provide test automation, manual testing and DevOps expertise working as part of a cross-functional, self-organising and collaborative Agile development team. Required to work closely and communicate effectively with team members including Product Owner, Developers and other Testers to test stories and contribute to detecting and resolving defects. A primary focus of the Test Automation Engineer’s role is using Selenium and other technical tools to reduce manual effort in the testing process – including shakeout, system, API and performance testing.

Position Summary

The primary activity of this role is to quickly learn and understand complex CIS, CRM and Billing products built for the global energy industry. These products are built on a technical stack that includes java, SQL, Genero 4Js, Oracle WebLogic and database. The Automation Tester will use technical tools and scripts to create programs that automate the testing process, and reduce manual work effort. The role is expected to work with a large local Vietnam team, and also product experts based in New Zealand and Australia.

This role also includes manual testing and DevOps activities (environment management, system configuration, trouble-shooting) as secondary tasks. These activities are performed in between major test automation projects, or as required to support client commitments.

Your role & responsibilities

  • Work within an Agile sprint team to program automated tests to reduce manual work effort
  • Contribute to Agile meetings (planning, reviews, etc) to understand client requirements
  • Write and execute manual test scenarios to ensure acceptance criteria are met
  • Evaluate test results and accurately record defects
  • Support engineers to design testable software
  • Ensure quality standards and procedures are followed at all times
  • Produce clear and concise testing documentation
  • Assist in the quality management continuous improvement process

Your skills & qualifications

Essential

  • Very strong written and spoken English
  • Ability to work within our District 2 office
  • Minimum 2 years of commercial experience with software development or test automation
  • Professional communication skills, including familiarity with collaboration tools (e.g. MS Teams)
  • Appropriate tertiary or equivalent accredited body testing certifications
  • Experience with Java programming language and BDD framework (e.g. Cucumber)
  • Experience with Automated Testing framework (e.g. Selenium, Appium) and related tools
  • Strong analytical skills; ability to understand complex processes with rigorous attention to detail

Desirable

  • Experience with Unix/Linux and related scripting languages (e.g. bash script, perl)
  • Experience with story management and testing tools (e.g. Jira, Zephyr)
  • Experience in the energy utilities industry
  • Experience with technical skills related to software development (e.g. SQL, Java, SoapUI, Postman)
  • Familiar with Continuous Integration tools (e.g. Jenkins)
  • Familiar with Agile/Scrum software development methodology
  • Experience in training other staff on product features and testing processes
  • Confidence in presenting new ideas for improving testing processes or introducing new tools
